Opinion - The WASR 10 was a very good option for a "beginner" AK for many years. With today's pricing schemes they're pretty lackluster. The fit and finish of WASRs is their most notorious trademark feature. Some guns have frustrating issues with furniture fitment, canted iron sights and can be magazine picky. However, a WASR that can cycle a magazine without hiccups will run forever. These guns have been proven out time and time again at full auto ranges anywhere between 50 to 60 thousands rounds before critical failure.

These are nice in that there is a plethora of accessories available for them, being that they are AKM pattern. The furniture that ships with this is so bad it may crack during your first range trip. Replacing it is a very good idea. Mag fit may be wobbly but once you find a magazine that works well with the gun it will go and go and go.

Find a decent deal, look it over, then buy one.

There are 2 other noteworthy models of WASR rifles: 1.) WASR Underfolder 2.) WASR 10/63 3.) AES-10

The WASR underfolder is a GP WASR 10 with an underfolding trunnion and stock. They are the same as the above rifle, but have to take AKMS stock accessories. The WASR 10/63 is an amalgamation of PM Md.63 military rifle parts merged in with some commercial parts. These tend to have good surplus furniture, marginally better finish, but their fit may possibly be worse. The AES-10 is a WASR with a long barrel, it is nothing like an RPK.
