The pistol was produced in Hungary since the early fifties as the Model 48. This pistol was an exact copy of the TT, except that the coat of arms of the Hungarian People's Republic was depicted on the handle instead of the star. But still, the TT-58 pistol is considered the best Hungarian model of Tokarev's pistol, which is an improved model of the Hungarian TT modification of the fifties.

This pistol was produced, under an intergovernmental agreement, by the Egyptian firm FEG in the late fifties under the name Tokajipt. However, he was not accepted by the army and was turned over to the police. A large number of pistols of this batch were sold on the commercial market, mainly in Germany, under the Firebird brand. The total number of pistols produced exceeded fifteen thousand. The Tokadjipt pistol seems to be more original in comparison with its military models. It has a more ergonomic grip, similar to that of the Walter P-38 pistol. The design of the store is carefully worked out and is devoid of many of the inherent disadvantages of the Soviet TT pistol.
